Routine warm-up in increasingly torrid conditions with Barrichello and Michael Schumacher just getting the edge on the best-placed McLaren-Mercedes. BMW Williams also feeling quietly confident about their prospects for the race.

SCUDERIA FERRARI MARLBORO (1st Barrichello/2nd M. Schumacher)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Schumacher used race and spare car during the course of the session, having a trouble-free time with both cars which he drove for seven laps each. Barrichello ran only one set of tyres, making his best time on the last lap after minor aerodynamic change and also experimenting with brake system adjustments.

Quotes: Schumacher: "Everything seems in order, but I'm worried that it might rain in the race."

WEST McLAREN MERCEDES (3rd Coulthard/19th Raikkonen)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday. Sporting: Raikkonen had a slight problem with set-up adjustment which lost him a bit of time while also trying the spare car. Coulthard concentrated on fine-tuning the handling balance for the race.

Quotes: Coulthard: "The car is much calmer and easier to drive in race trim."

MILD SEVEN RENAULT F1 TEAM (4th Trulli/6th Button)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Trulli made a set-up change which much improved the car and Button was also happy, spending some time scrubbing in tyres.

Quote: Trulli: "I think we can have a very good race today."

SAUBER PETRONAS (5th Heidfeld/11th Massa)

Technical: No changes to cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Heidfeld very happy indeed, reporting that the car feels even better than it did in qualifying. Massa experienced no problems. Spare car for Heidfeld.

Quote: Heidfeld: "It will be a tough race for sixth place this afternoon."

BMW WILLIAMSF1 TEAM (7th Montoya/9th R. Schumacher).

Technical: No changes to cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Ralf Schumacher had a spin and also tried the T-car. Montoya then had an unspecified mechanical problem and briefly switched to the spare as well, although the cockpit settings had to be readjusted.

Montoya: "It could be very close this afternoon and we are feeling quite confident."

JAGUAR RACING (8th de la Rosa/17th Irvine)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: De La Rosa generally having a better run with the R3 than Irvine who was still complaining that it was not getting through the corners properly.

Quote: Irvine: "We will have to regard this race as very much an extension of a test session before going to Barcelona next week."

ORANGE ARROWS (10th Frentzen/12th Bernoldi)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Frentzen very happy indeed with the feel of his A23 while Bernoldi had no problems.

Quotes: Frentzen: "If we avoid any problems at the first corner we've got a good chance of finishing in the top six."

DHL JORDAN HONDA (13th Sato/15th Fisichella)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Fisichella tried both the race and the spare EJ-12, reporting that the race chassis felt quite good even if he was not so happy with the balance compared with yesterday. Sato improved his overall lap performance, reporting that he had overcome his problems in the third sector.

Quote: Fisichella: "It could be a good race for us, but the conditions will be very tough."

PANASONIC TOYOTA RACING (14th Salo/16th McNish)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Salo tried both the race car and the spare with different set-ups and fuel loads. McNish also had no problems after suffering what turned out to be a driveshaft failure on his TF102.

Quote: Salo:"We had no problems and I am hoping for points if the top teams retire."

LUCKY STRIKE BAR HONDA (18th Villeneuve/20th Panis)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Clutch problem for Panis while Villeneuve reported that he felt more comfortable in his race car.

Quote: Panis: "This weekend has been a nightmare and my car is not better in race trim."

KL MINARDI ASIATECH (21st Webber/22nd Yoong)

Technical: No changes to the cars since yesterday.

Sporting: Webber suffered a slight hydraulic problem while the T-car was reserved for Yoong as it was his home Grand Prix.

Quote:Webber: "We're not quite sure yet whether we will have one stop or two today."
