Heinz-Harald Frentzen set the fastest time this morning in the warm-up, his Arrows A23 posting a best time 0.097sec ahead of Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F2002 in delightful sunny weather conditions. Behind this Bridgestone 1-2 came the Michelin-shod McLaren and Renault of David Coulthard and Jarno Trulli.
ORANGE ARROWS (1st Frentzen/15th Bernoldi)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Frentzen very confident after slight further set-up changes eliminated all traces of understeer. Bernoldi happy with the handling balance but still not comfortable with the circuit.
Quotes: Frentzen: "We should be strong in the race even though overtaking is obviously very difficult."
SCUDERIA FERRARI MARLBORO (2nd M. Schumacher/6th Barrichello)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Schumacher did nine laps in his race car then eight laps in the spare; Barrichello ran ten laps in his race car and six laps in the spare. Both men reported good balance and no problems.
Quotes: Barrichello: "The most important priority here is to get into a rhythm from the start."
WEST McLAREN MERCEDES (3rd Coulthard/5th Raikkonen)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Raikkonen race car repaired after sustaining damage to its rollover hoop during first practice yesterday, bringing the team back up to its full allocation of four MP4/17s. Both Coulthard and Raikkonen had trouble-free runs in both their race chassis and the spare cars.
Quotes: Coulthard: "I think we've got the underlying capability to do very well here today."
MILD SEVEN RENAULT F1 TEAM (4th Trulli/11th Button)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Trulli used race car and the spare R202, reporting that he felt extremely confident with its handling balance and grip levels. Button also felt that his car was better balanced and improved from qualifying.
Quotes: Trulli: "If I hadn't experienced those problems during qualifying I think we would be even stronger for the race."
LUCKY STRIKE BAR HONDA (8th Panis/14th Villeneuve)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Panis still suffering from lack of grip although the handling balance was significantly improved. Villeneuve used both his race car and the spare and had no particular problems.
Quotes: Villeneuve: "It will certainly be hard work for us both this afternoon."
DHL JORDAN HONDA (9th Fisichella/19th Sato)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Fisichella tried the spare EJ-12 and had no problems while Sato was still struggling with his car's balance.
Quotes: Gary Anderson: "A trouble-free warm-up, just making final preparations with tyres and set-up."
PANASONIC TOYOTA RACING (10th Salo/12th McNish)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Both drivers extremely satisfied with their TF102s, reporting fantastic grip from their Michelins although Salo still reported a touch of excessive oversteer.
Quotes: Gustav Brunner: "It's important to make a good start here, but even more important that the cars immediately ahead of you on the grid do the same."
KL MINARDI ASIATECH (13th Webber/22nd Yoong)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Webber very happy with his PS02 and had no problems while Yoong had a straight-on moment at the harbour front chicane.
Quotes: Webber: "The car felt well balanced with good grip levels, so we're feeling quite confident."
SAUBER PETRONAS (16th Massa/17th Heidfeld)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: Neither driver particularly happy as they were finding that even the scrubbed Bridgestones were graining quite seriously.
Quotes: Heidfeld: "I didn't expect it to take so long to get rid of the graining on our tyres this morning."
BMW WILLIAMSF1 TEAM (7th R. Schumacher/20th Montoya)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: A routine programme for both drivers with Schumacher trying some minor set-up changes and scrubbing in tyres. Montoya frustrated by the fact that he did not have sufficient time to try a modified front wing adjustment late in the session.
Quotes: Montoya: "We will just have to make the most of our pole position."
JAGUAR RACING (18th de la Rosa/21st Irvine)
Technical: No changes to the cars for today.
Sporting: De la Rosa stopped at the chicane with an electronic problem related to the clutch while Irvine just concentrated on scrubbing tyres and making final set-up changes.
Quotes: Irvine: "It's going to be a long 78 laps round here given that we're a second and a half a lap slower than we were last year."
